We teach people how to lose weight and to keep it off permanently. You will receive support from our staff including a medical doctor, a registered dietitian and a personal trainer to help you achieve your personal weight loss or health goals. We promote all aspects of weight loss including a health-promoting diet at the right caloric level, activity, behavioral training and medical care. We also treat clients with dietary strategies for conditions such as IBS, diabetes, hypercholesteria and high blood pressure.
Yes, some benefit plans do cover our services. Because so many plans are different clients will have to contact their benefits customer service department to verify that their coverage includes a)Registered Dietitians or b) Nutritional Counseling. Once the above has been verified, ALL of our program is covered to whatever annual maximums are in effect.
A receipt will be provided to you with the dates and services received which is required by most insurance companies. This insinuates that you will have to attend visits for a month or two and get the visits collected and then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance companies will NOT reimburse for appointments that are booked into the future. The insurance company will reimburse the patient directly.
The cost includes weekly meetings with either the dietitian or the physician for 30 minutes. The program also includes time with a personal trainer. The number of sessions are dependent upon length of program purchased. (Your time is one-on-one and is booked in a 30 minute session.) In addition, you will receive your customized diet cards every week throughout our program. Your plan also includes monthly metabolism testing which Weightcare uses to make sure you are eating at exactly the right caloric level and that your weight loss doesn't plateau so you maintain a consistent weight loss throughout our program.
Our clinic covers all four key areas needed to achieve permanent weight loss; a healthy diet, exercise, behavior training and medical supervision all under one roof. Weightcare is also the only weight loss clinic in Canada to utilize metabolic testing to create a truly personalized program.
The behavioral portion of the program is achieved by working with one of Weightcare's physicians. Our behavioral program consists of helping you identify obstacles that prevent you from eating well and exercising or dealing with times when you are vulnerable to food. You learn how to cope with emotional eating, binge eating, and we train you on how to eat out or at family gatherings or how to work through setbacks. Our physician will give you tools and strategies to help you deal (emotionally and physically) in any situation. The behavioral program is the greatest predictor of your long term success. We are the only weight loss program available that provides this unique complete form of one on one training.
You have to commit to coming in once a week for about 30-60 minutes. You will be meeting with the Registered Dietitian every week for the first month; we find that patients need to be followed more closely during that time. You will also be meeting with a physician every other week throughout the entire program. You will have a certain amount of personal training sessions which are included in each program. These appointments are booked on your availability but most clients choose to combine them with one of the appointments listed above.
The dietitian is all about food, they will go into intimate detail about your eating habits. When you meet with the Dietitian they will review your daycards at every visit and counsel you regarding proper portion sizes, daily dietary allowances, food allergies and vegetarianism. They can also focus on solutions to specific conditions such as colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and food intolerances. The dietitian's main responsibility is to educate you on what healthy eating really is and to help you implement healthy eating into your daily life.
The physician is responsible for two main aspects of our program. The first being medical care, the physician will discuss and monitor levels of cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugars and thyroid hormone. They will also screen for conditions that can effect weight loss such as depression, anxiety, binge eating and night eating. Secondly, the physician is responsible for the behavioral training aspect of the program.
Weightcare has a certified personal trainer on staff. Even if you already belong to a gym or see a personal trainer it is highly recommended that you use this service. Our personal trainer can customize an activity guideline that is based on what you feel comfortable with; they can add this to an existing gym program or design a home program. The personal trainer's main goal is to simply get you more active then you are today.
On your first visit with the personal trainer you will NOT need to bring workout clothes. You will have a sit down consultation with the trainer on what your activity goals are and what your current activity level is. For your second visit you will need to bring workout clothes so that you can work through your personalized exercise program Your personal training bookings are one-on-one 30 minute sessions.
Your metabolism is literally how much energy you use each day (the number of calories you burn each day). Your daily weight loss or gain is determined by the difference of the amount of energy (calories) you take in versus the amount of energy (calories) you burn. We use a breakthrough technology called an Indirect Calorimeter to measure your own daily metabolic rate.
You will simply sit back and breath into a machine for 10 minutes. The only preparation that is needed for the test is to fast (no food or drink, except water) for 4 hours prior to the test. It is also best advisable to refrain from any exercise for 12 hours before the test. There are no needles or electrodes involved.
The metabolism test is measuring your metabolic rate or REE ( Resting Energy Expenditure). Your REE is intended to measure the number of calories that an individual would burn if at rest for 24 hours. This test is the most accurate measurement of REE much more accurate than bio impedance, the Harris-Benedict equation or fat caliber measurement. Once we determine your caloric rate, it takes the guesswork out of how many calories your body uses everyday - the essential number required to personalize your plan.
You do not have to purchase any special foods. Our food recommendations are consistent with those recommended by the Canada Food Guide, the USDA Food Pyramid and the American Heart Association. The types of foods you will be eating include grains, vegetables, fruit, dairy, protein and healthy fats and even extras, everything you need for a health promoting diet.
There are no banned foods nor do we promote a very low calorie or low-carb diet. It is a back-to-basics, healthy way of eating. You get to eat out at restaurants and with your family. You will learn about portion sizes and other important skills required to enjoy sustained weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.
Clients at Weightcare do not feel like they are on a diet. With our help you create a dietary pattern you will keep forever. How long you will be on the program depends on how much overall weight you would like to lose permanently and or your health goals.
